Blooms with a Story: Discovering the Art of Ben Fronckowiak’s “Rose” Collection
At first glance, it’s hard not to be mesmerized by the giant, life-like rose stretching across the six by eight-foot canvas in front of you. This feeling of awe and captivation is exactly how we felt when we first encountered the work of Brooklyn-based artist Ben Fronckowiak and his “Rose” collection.
Each rose he paints has its own unique identity. From the color choices he explores to the angles and shadow work he plays with, it’s apparent to the viewer that he’s giving each rose its own personality and deeper meaning below the surface.
We met Ben years ago on a trip to New York City and were captivated not only by his work - which was a given - but by who he is as an artist. Inspired by film directors Tim Burton and Guillermo Del Toro, and other fine artists such as Picasso and Francis Bacon, it’s evident in his paintings that he likes exploring themes such as identity, impermanence, transformation, and realism. His thoughtful approach to his craft, his exploration of deeper themes, and the way his paintings seem to live and breathe on the canvas made it clear he doesn’t just create art, he builds narratives.
We were drawn to Ben because his work felt like an extension of who he is: complex, thoughtful, and wholly original. In a world where art can sometimes feel impersonal, his roses are intimate conversations. They remind us that beauty can be bold and soft all at once. Bringing his “Rose” collection to The Wren felt like a natural fit for us. As a business founded on amplifying the voices of artisans across the globe and an appreciation for exquisite pieces of art made by hand, we knew Ben would make the perfect addition to our collective.
