Vista Alegre
Founded in 1824 by José Ferreira Pinto Basto, Vista Alegre was the first porcelain factory in Portugal, established with a Royal License from King João VI. Initially producing glassware and pottery, the factory transitioned to exclusive porcelain production by 1880. Overcoming early challenges, the company improved quality through technological advancements, collaboration with international craftsmen, and the discovery of kaolin deposits in Ílhavo. The 20th century brought a revival through industrial restructuring, modern design styles, and global market expansion, solidifying its status as a prestigious European manufacturer. Today, Vista Alegre remains a symbol of Portuguese heritage, renowned for its artistry, exclusive pieces, and commitment to tradition and innovation.
